Attention, attention the American Kennel Club (AKC) is now recognizing three new dog breeds as members of its super awesome club! The newbies are: the berger Picard, lagotto Romagnolo and the miniature American shepherd. We must say, these new breeds are super adorable, each in their own way!
Perks For The New Pups
These new breeds can now compete in the AKC’s 22,000 annual canine events, along with the 184 other dog breeds who are already “in the club.” AKC spokesperson Gina DiNardo says, “Each of these breeds is unique and will make wonderful companions to a variety of people.” Each of the breeds had to meet special requirements to make the cut including being represented by a National Breed Club, and numbering at least 300 to 400 across 20 or more states.
What They’re Like
- The berger Picard: is an “athletic” breed from France that was bred to be a working companion
- The miniature American shepherd: is a small herding dog which the AKC says is “eager to please, devoted, good-natured, and intelligent.”
- The lagotto Roagnolo Romagnolo: can trace its roots to Italy and is said to be the “only purebred dog in the world recognized as a specialized truffle searcher.”
