Have you ever included your pet on a family trip? It can be rewarding and fun, and with a little preparation it can even be easy. Back in 2010, 60% of families traveled with their pet, and the number only continues to grow! So keep scrolling for some travel tips and some photos of adorable dogs enjoying their trips.

Doggone Fantastic Adventures Ahead

  • Check With The Vet: Before you begin to plan, make sure your dog is up to date on all vaccinations and you have the documentation to prove it if you’re traveling internationally. Also, if your pet takes any medication make sure you have what you need for the duration of your trip. Your vet may even want to give your pet a check-up to make sure he or she is up to snuff for the adventures ahead!
  • Do Your Research: These days there are a number of pet-friendly hotels, campgrounds, vacation homes, and even four-star resorts to choose from! You can even find a travel agent specializing in canine-centered vacations to make the process easier.
  • Transportation Considerations: Make sure your dog is riding safely in your vehicle. If you are using trailers, fifth wheels or campers, make sure your pet is properly secured in a carrier or with a leash so they stay safe. If it’s your dog’s first time in a recreational vehicle you may want to take him or her on a short test run around the neighborhood.
  • Comfort Is Key: If your pet is anxious before travel, let your vet know, as they may prescribe a mild sedative to help your dog relax. Before you leave home, feed your dog a light meal and lots of water. This will help prevent motion sickness. Additionally, when plotting out your trip, allow for plenty of potty and exercise breaks to keep everyone happy!
