Your hairdo is important. It says something to the world about you, and it can be classic or trendy, fun or serious, fluffy or flat. So why shouldn’t your dog’s hairstyle say something about him or her? Enter the “dog bun.”

You’ve seen the photos of men with long hair putting their locks up into tiny “man buns,” and now it’s considered cool to give your dog a similar look. A little silly and very chic, the look tells the world your pooch is both laid back, and fashion forward.

Dog Grooming Tips

Sure, the dog bun is a fabulous look, but if you don’t think it’s your pup’s style, you have other options.

  • Brushing: Most short coats require weekly brushing, but longer coats may require daily attention. Depending on your dog’s coat, pick the appropriate brushes to use. Be sure to be gentle when removing tangles and mats on long-haired breeds.
  • Bathing: Depending on weather and your dog’s recent activities, you may want to bathe him or her every one to three weeks. Make sure to use a mild dog shampoo that won’t strip the skin of essential oils. If you dry Fido with a blow dryer, make sure to keep the heat setting low, and point it to the side of him instead of directly at him.
  • Remember: certain breeds have specific concerns when it comes to bathing. Bulldogs, for example, need the folds on their faces cleaned carefully. Make sure to consult your vet for grooming tips specific to your dog’s breed.
